Hanging out with friends....
I’ve been chatting with you for a long time: general musings about
boats, thoughts about cruising and topics designed to stir up the
waters. Over the last few months, however, that fun has risen to a new
level with the introduction of Neville Trawlers. These are the first
boats in 30-years that I’ve chosen to hang my name on.
The first of the line, the Neville 47, was introduced at the 2006
Solomons Trawler Fest, where she received the People’s Choice Award.
Many of you also got to see her at the Trawler Port - Annapolis or at
the 2007 Stuart Trawler Fest where once again the N47 received the
prestigious PassageMaker People’s Choice Award. In the company of Kadey
Krogen, Nordhavn, Fleming and others, you viewed our boat as the best of
the best. It was great fun, and when you consider the level of
competition it was rather humbling.
The best part of the exercise, however, has been having an opportunity
to talk with you. These events have given me the chance to discuss our
plans for Neville Trawlers, your needs as a boater and hopefully how the
two may overlap. I’ve met many who read these rants and so many others
who were frankly amazed that a designer would be there to talk to them
about boats. I shared the engine room dozens of times with 6-8 guys. It
felt like I was living an episode of TV’s Home Improvement as we
discussed systems and joked about where to put the beer cooler. My
favorite comment, however, came from a guest who I heard telling her
husband that our boat had a cute engine room. “Cute engine room”… I like
that.
Whether or not Neville Trawlers are your choice, I hope to see you at
our next stop. If you can’t join us or can’t wait, give me a call.
But that’s just my opinion.
