All of our Cape Horn 75 / 81's were built on this
world class design, but each one had its own personality:
a testament not only to the company and the boat yards that built
them, but
also to the experienced yachtsmen that commissioned their
construction. There were various lower and main deck
accommodations to suit each owner's individual taste. In the drawings attached the main salon is shown
with a large dining table to port. On other versions of the
boat, however, this feature was replaced with another large built-in settee
or other preferred amenities.
Today, this design is indeed suitable for customization to
meet your own specific needs. The Cape Horn boats were all
steel. A better alternative, however, would be a steel
hull with an aluminum deckhouse. That combination greatly
improves the stability characteristics of the boats by reducing
weight particularly weight located up high. Our experience
with the boat also suggests that the large bilge keels which, yes
protected the fin stabilizers, actuality prevented them from
doing their job very well. The boat really works better
without them. The
additional control that active fins provide will greatly increase
the livability for most offshore
boats. If you have a tall tri-deck model, this advantage is
even more important.
Another great feature of the boat is the large
comfortable interior space just forward of the galley. On certain boats
this was built out into a spacious office. On others it became a media room with large screen
TV etc. or a comfortable music center. In reality it is there
for
whatever you wish to include. It could be an exercise room, or
an on deck cabin with head, or: think of the
possibilities.
